Getting Started with the M20X

  • Hi,what communication interfaces are available on the M20X Integrated Navigation Receiver?

  • Hello! The M20X is a comprehensive INS/GNSS receiver equipped with a variety of interfaces to suit different integration needs. It features two serial ports, one in-vehicle Ethernet port, one automotive CAN, and one standard CAN.

  • Thanks! How do I set up and use the in-vehicle Ethernet port on the M20X?

  • Setting up the in-vehicle Ethernet requires a few initial steps, as it operates slightly differently from standard Ethernet. Here is a breakdown of how to get it connected:

    1. Initial Serial Configuration Before you can use the in-vehicle Ethernet, the M20X's Ethernet port must first be configured via the serial port.

    2. Hardware Connection Because a standard computer cannot directly recognize in-vehicle Ethernet signals, you will need to use an appropriate interface converter (media converter) to bridge the communication between your PC and the M20X.

    3. Network Setup (IP Allocation) Both the receiver and your computer must be assigned unique IP addresses. In testing environments, static IP addresses are highly recommended.

    • You will generally need a USB-to-serial cable to configure the receiver's IP address.

    • Default Settings: The M20X's default IP address is 192.168.1.104, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. (For the specific configuration commands, please refer to the M20X Message Manual).

    4. Data Transmission (ICOM & TCP) For the actual data connection, the system uses ICOM, which is essentially a virtual serial port operating as an application layer protocol within the TCP/IP suite.

    • While the transport layer for ICOM can theoretically use TCP or UDP, the M20X currently acts as a TCP Server.

    • Default Port: You can connect to it using port 8089.

If you run into any issues pinging the device or connecting to the TCP port, feel free to let us know!

  • Awesome, thanks for the detailed step-by-step breakdown! This is very helpful for setting up the M20X in our testing vehicle. I will follow these instructions to get it connected.
